The origin of our name and name variations
Since the time of our ancestral forebears Harm and Hille Oldebusch six name variations have developed, such as Oldebusch (died out), Oldenbusch (Germany and USA),
Ohlenbusch (Germany France, Netherlands, USA), Ohlebusch (Germany), Ohldebusch (Germany), and Olenbush (USA).
All these name variations were thus derived from the name of the ancestral farm "Oldenbusch". Our family name is therefore a so called 'location name'.
At the beginning of the 17th Century the owner of our ancestral farm was called "Curt zum Oldenbusch" and later "Cord Oldenbusch". The name of our ancestor became simplified to "Oldebusch". This variant, however, did not survive as a surname.
